Printpack Cares: A Week of Service
September 2009 marked the 53rd anniversary of Printpack. In recognition of our anniversary, and the principles and values that our founder, J. Erskine Love, Jr. promoted, the Atlanta Corporate offices sponsored, “Printpack Cares – A Week of Service” to commemorate the event.
During the week of September 7th – 13th, Printpack associates participated in a variety of different volunteer projects at local community charities:
On September 7th, ten associates and their spouses served breakfast at MUST Ministries to about 45 shelter residents and staff. MUST is a faith-based organization that is dedicated to providing services to persons and families in crisis while maintaining their dignity. Printpack associates made egg casserole, sausage, homemade biscuits, and brought doughnuts, fruit, and juice to serve to the shelter residents.
On Tuesday, September 8th, another sixteen associates volunteered to help out at the Atlanta Union Mission, a charity for which Mrs. Gay Love is a member of the Board of Directors. Volunteers cradled and played with babies, helped with homework and games, sorted clothes and served dinner to the women residents and their children. Atlanta Union Mission is a Christian ministry that brings Christ's healing power to any person in crisis through programs of rescue and recovery. The Mission serves as many as 1,070 men, women and children every day of the year with emergency shelter, residential recovery and transitional housing.
Fifteen associates and spouses traveled to the Center for Children and Young Adults on Wednesday, September 9th. The center is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment with comprehensive services for children and young adults who are abused, neglected or at risk. Associates created motivational bulletin boards in the residents’ living quarters, power washed the back deck and outside furniture, and trimmed and hedged the lawn and bushes on the property.
The Kaiser Permanente Corporate Challenge was held on Thursday evening, September 10th. Proceeds from the 5k race/walk benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Forty Printpack participants competed against other area companies in this annual event.
On Saturday morning, September 12th, Printpack sponsored the 11th annual Run for the Kids – a 5k race and one mile fun run that benefits the Calvary Children’s Home, The Good Samaritan Health Center, Vinings Rotary Charity Fund and other local charities. Over seventy Printpack associates and family members participated – and some of our participants even won age group medals!
To wrap up the Week of Service, on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th, fourteen associates and family members from Villa Rica and Atlanta worked at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Volunteers attended to the dogs at the shelter by walking them, bathing them, and socializing them. Some of the participants even cleaned the cages and housing units. During the two day event, six animals were adopted into new homes.
And here’s the best news yet:
To celebrate the 54th anniversary of Printpack in September 2010, “Printpack Cares – A Week of Service” will be extended to all of our plant locations. Opportunities to help local charities will be coordinated by each plant site.
