The Gay & Erskine Love Foundation

History & Purpose

The Gay and Erskine Love Foundation is a charitable foundation established in 1976 by J. Erskine Love, Jr., founder of Printpack, and his wife and current Printpack chairman Gay McLawhorn Love. The Foundation, funded primarily by contributions from Printpack, makes charitable grants to a broad range of educational, civic, religious, medical, and health-related institutions and agencies. Since its inception 30 years ago, The Love Foundation has made gifts totaling over $50 million to more than 500 national and local organizations.


Printpack Inc. was founded by J. Erskine Love, Jr. in 1956.  Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Printpack is a privately-held manufacturer of flexible and specialty rigid packaging.  Employing 4,220 associates worldwide, the company operates 27 manufacturing facilities in the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Poland and China. 


Areas of Interest

The main interest of the Foundation is in the area of education, from primary through higher education, however, consideration is also given to proposals in the following categories:

  • Arts
  • Civic
  • Health
  • Community & Social Services
  • Religion

Most of the Foundation's grants are made to organizations in the Atlanta community and the State of Georgia.  Consideration is also given to requests from other areas of the country where Printpack has facilities and/or associates.


Applying for a Grant

Grant requests should be in the form of a letter, which includes the following information:

  1. A brief description of the organization, including history and purpose;
  2. A list of board members, committee members and executive officers;
  3. A description of the proposed program;
  4. The amount requested from Printpack;
  5. Other sources of potential support.

Proposals may be submitted at any time, but they will be considered at the quarterly meeting of the trustees.  They should be directed to:

Grace Cook (’12) and Mackenzie Lussier (’13), Clemson University students in packaging science, are co-recipients of the 2012 Future Leaders in Packaging Scholarship, sponsored by Packaging World magazine and packaging converter Printpack, Inc.
