The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) awarded Printpack an AmeriStar Award for PepsiCo’s Granola Goes Nuts easy-open laser scored bars. IoPP announced 21 winners in its 2018 AmeriStar Package Awards Competition.
Sixteen judges considered more than 70 packages for nine category awards, four student awards, and AmeriStar’s top three awards. The judges represented various segments of the packaging industry and evaluated this year’s entries in person, examining package innovation, product protection, economics, performance, marketing, and environmental impact.
The Granola Goes Nuts package represents a technical innovation in consumer convenience. The easy-open feature uses cross-directional laser score technology to create a bar wrapper that maintains barrier and shelf life, is easy to open for both children and adults, and offers a clean snacking experience for sticky or melty products.
The Granola Goes Nuts cross-directional laser scored package combines marketplace differentiation, technological advances, and ease of use to create a consumer-pleasing, mess-free experience. The overall design and technology can also be used on other food products where the consumer would like a clean snacking experience (i.e. cookies, crackers, confectionery, candy, etc).
Printpack and PepsiCo were awarded a joint US patent for this technology. Additionally, the package was recognized with a 2017 Gold Dupont Award for Packaging Innovation and a 2017 Flexible Packaging Award for Technical Innovation.
Printpack is honored to be recognized by the IoPP with the AmeriStar Award in the Shelf-Stable category.
