VMI is a fully integrated approach to order planning and inventory management, designed to simplify processes and optimize customer service. As your strategic VMI partner, we leverage your forecast, order, and inventory data to manage order fulfillment more efficiently and dynamically adjust inventories in response to customer demand. The benefits include shorter lead times, reduced inventory exposure, improved on-time delivery, and overall cost savings. Printpack’s approach to VMI is unique in our industry. We elevate customer-focused VMI by leveraging real-time data visibility from our X-ccelerator Customer Self-Service Platform and critical forecasting insights from our Forecast Analytics Platform.

Do you have forecasting tools to help me plan my business?

Yes. In addition to the daily forecasting models that serve as the foundation of our Planning and VMI programs, Printpack also offers customers critical supply chain insights through our Forecast Analytics Platform. This platform focuses on eliminating two key supply chain risks: stockouts and obsolescence. By analyzing your current and historical demand data alongside your actual usage information, our Forecast Analytics Platform measures forecast accuracy and volatility over time and at the SKU level. It then reveals risk factors based on historical performance compared to forward-looking forecasts. These analytics can be used for ongoing demand signal monitoring, flagging at-risk items, ad-hoc analysis, and portfolio-level trend identification and insights.

New to Packaging

What is the difference between flexography, rotogravure, and digital printing?

Different print processes transfer images to printing surfaces in different ways. Think of flexography (or flexo for short) like using a stamp. Ink is applied to rubber printing plates (one for each color), which have raised areas that form the image to be printed. These plates are mounted on cylinders that roll over the surface being printed. With each revolution of the cylinder, an image is transferred. Rotogravure (also known as gravure or roto) printing uses individually engraved cylinders to produce the printed image. The image is etched into a metal cylinder, which is then bathed in ink. Excess ink is wiped off the surface, leaving ink only in the recessed areas, ready for transfer. Digital printing, by contrast, transfers a digital image directly to the surface by applying ink or toner without the need for individual plates or cylinders. Flexography and rotogravure are typically used for medium to high-volume orders, while digital printing is ideal for low-volume, quick-turnaround jobs or projects requiring customized graphics.

What is Dry offset printing? (rigid)

With dry offset printing, the image is transferred from a plate to the rubber blanket of an offset press and then to the printing surface in a single pass. There is no need to wet the plate with water before applying the ink. Colors are applied sequentially to the rubber blanket as it rotates past each printing head.

Do you make boxes, clamshells, folding cartons?

We do not. Check out a complete list of our value-added packaging enhancement options here: https://www.printpack.com/enhancement-options/.

Will my package be recyclable? What classifies my package as recyclable?

Printpack will collaborate with you to develop a package that can be classified as recyclable. Our team of experts will guide you through the process every step of the way. A recyclable package must meet several criteria. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which regulates packaging claims of recyclability, a product can only be labeled as recyclable if it “can be collected, separated or otherwise recovered from a waste stream through an established recycling program for reuse or use in manufacturing or assembling another item.” Marketers may also make unqualified recyclable claims if a “substantial majority” (at least 60 percent) of consumers who purchase the product have access to recycling—in other words, if adequate recycling facilities exist in the areas where the product is sold. For flexible packaging, currently only polyethylene has the recycling infrastructure needed to meet all the criteria outlined by the FTC. Your package must also comply with guidelines set forth by How2Recycle and the Association of Plastic Recyclers before it can participate in the Store Drop-Off Program, which allows certain plastic bags, wraps, and films to be dropped off for recycling at local retail stores. For flexible paper packaging, robust infrastructure is already in place for paper recycling via curbside collection. However, the packaging must comply with How2Recycle guidelines and meet the Western Michigan University standard (or an equivalent) for OCC/SBS recycling to ensure it can be safely processed in the paper stream. For rigid packaging, many formats are already recyclable. If your current package is not, Printpack can work with you to transition to a recyclable solution. You should also know that all Printpack film has already been pre-qualified, helping to eliminate potential delays during the certification process. For more information, refer to the Federal Trade Commission Green Guides on the use of environmental marketing claims.

Will my package be compostable?

Printpack will collaborate with you to develop a packaging solution that is third-party certified as compostable.

How is flexible packaging sustainable?

Compared to other packaging formats, flexible and specialty rigid packaging offers a number of sustainability benefits throughout every stage of the product life cycle. These benefits include: - Lower greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, food waste, packaging material, and landfill contributions. - Greater resource efficiency, reduced storage and transportation footprints, and improved product-to-packaging ratios.

Do you offer prepress services?

Yes. Printpack has an internal team dedicated to optimizing your packaging graphics. We combine our extensive industry expertise with the latest prepress technologies to support you throughout the entire graphics development process.

How do I add the H2R logo on my package? What classifies my package as H2R recyclable? How do consumers recycle?

The How2Recycle label can only be issued directly to brands for individual packaging by How2Recycle itself. However, Printpack can help you get your packaging approved through our prequalified structures. We are also familiar with the guidelines set by the Association of Plastic Recyclers and Western Michigan University’s standards for paper recycling. Printpack produces recyclable packaging across a wide range of formats, applications, and markets.
